Andrei’s New Year’s Resolutions

Since the end of another year is upon us, the tradition says you have to make a few resolutions for the new year to come. Things you would like to do better, you would want to avoid doing, or just stuff to improve.

I remember making said resolutions two years ago. Back then I said I want to pass my finals in high-school, get into a good university, quit smoking and a few others I can’t remember. Luckily enough I managed to achieve the first two, the last is hard enough as it is… The finals went incredibly well and the university is quite fun!

But that was two years ago. I believe that was one of the most important years in my life. Now, I don’t really care what happens next year. Well, sorta-kinda. Of course I have secret desires I would like to fulfil, secret wishes I would really like to see coming true, and other secrets I would like to avoid. But since there is no way I can make sure I can respect these resolutions I prefer to keep it quiet and hope for the best.

The less you expect, the better it will be, and the more fun you will have living your life!

Has this been a good year? I have no idea. But I had fun! But nevertheless, Have a happy, happy new year :woohoo:

A lil’ something about the iPhone

On my trip to London I was surprised to see that half the londoners had iPhones, half of this half ( :waitwut: ) having iPhone4, which was released a month prior to my trip. When I got home I looked it up a bit and found out some interesting stuff.

On Vodafone’s site I saw the following:

Just to make a better idea: a week‘s pass for bus and tube is £30. On the other hand, in Romania you have to trade in your family… The screenshot above says it all :P .

Google’s Public DNSs

As I said a few days ago on Twitter, Google has these awesome public DNSs. When I last paid my internet bill, they gave me a flyer with my new IP. After I got home and changed the IP, Gateway, etc. I noticed the internet was very slow. I have been using the DNSs offered by Google since they were launched last year but decided to try the new ones I got from my ISP. After I went nuts with how slow the connection is, I changed back to Google’s configuration. Problem solved!

This is where you should make the modifications:

Did you know about Google’s DNS? Have you used them? Did you see any change in your connection speed? Will you use them from now on?

In case you aren’t using the Google Public DNS, I strongly suggest you at least give them a try and then tell me your opinion :) .

Crime doesn’t pay!

… or “Being a celebrity has it’s advantages”, something like that. Today, while on Facebook, I saw this:

So, just because he’s a known person, he has to be sucked up by a lot of people when posting an interjection! Sad :death: The picture speaks for itself…

Microsoft are bitches

I used to go to spoon.net to check compatibility with Internet Explorer. But it was also cool to learn that even Firefox 2 (launched in 2006?) had a minimal CSS3 support. Internet Explorer 8 was launched the same year, but didn’t have support for any CSS3 rule. Damn you Firefox, for not abiding the web standards! Yesterday, I went to Spoon to see whether a bit of jQuery(+UI) works in IE6 and 7. Kinder Surprise:

So Microsoft doesn’t even want to stop sucking!

I wouldn’t be a good freelancer!

Let’s say I knew enough code to do freelancing. I’d still do a horrible job. Why is freelancing hard you ask? Because of the clients. I am usually a helpful person, especially with the people I know and have a certain relationship.

But if an unknown person comes up to me, tells me he can’t access the internet, the only thing he sees is that “MSN crap“, the only thing I can do is stop, drop and lol. The most epic gig is when the client tells the developer/designer that he shouldn’t charge for his work because he does it from passion :death: .

I always respected developers and designers a lot, but when I’m reading ClientsFromHell.net, that respect goes sky high!
