Let’s say I knew enough code to do freelancing. I’d still do a horrible job. Why is freelancing hard you ask? Because of the clients. I am usually a helpful person, especially with the people I know and have a certain relationship.
But if an unknown person comes up to me, tells me he can’t access the internet, the only thing he sees is that “MSN crap“, the only thing I can do is stop, drop and lol. The most epic gig is when the client tells the developer/designer that he shouldn’t charge for his work because he does it from passion
.
I always respected developers and designers a lot, but when I’m reading ClientsFromHell.net, that respect goes sky high!
The ingredients are:
- one logo taken from Ubuntu
- one design taken from Twitter
- a lot of nerve
Preparation mode:
You take the logo from Ubuntu, wash it with clear water and you put it in the oven at medium temperature. Leave it there until it changes colour and basic characteristics. Be careful not to burn it! Best served with a bit of salt and butter. It should look like this:

The second part of the recipe is a bit trickier. You have to make it look exactly like Twitter. The best practice here is to copy large parts of CSS code directly from the Twitter homepage. This way you will avoid a lot of trouble and bug tracking. Five minutes in the microwave oven should be enough. Try using a bit of cinnamon. Serve it cold.
The final ingredient is the most important. If you lack nerve, this recipe will fail

I never was a big fan of gradients, thought of them to be part of the oldies in design. Yesterday I was proven wrong. A few weeks ago I made a ribbon for titles in the sidebar. It looked like this:

Pretty dull, right? Right. I wanted to make it a bit better (limited by my skills of course). I modified the drop shadow, added a gradient and a small border and got:

In my opinion the second one looks better, more realistic and less noob-ish. It’s not quite magic but I think it’s an improvement
